by THEFUTURE.TEAM

Bank of Cyprus will hold its seventh fintech hackathon in Nicosia from Nov. 27 to 29, bringing together developers, startups, professionals and students to build digital products.

The BoC Fintech Hackathon 7.0 will take place at the IDEA Innovation Centre, with challenges covering finance, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, smart cities and entrepreneurship. Participants will compete for €16,000 in prizes while developing concepts into minimum viable products.

Teams Get Access To Open Banking Tools

A key feature of this year’s event is access to Bank of Cyprus’ upgraded open banking infrastructure. Through a sandbox, participants can use the bank’s open banking APIs and software development kit to build solutions involving payments and transaction data.

Artificial intelligence will feature across several categories, including AI for Good, which focuses on financial inclusion, education and fraud prevention. Other challenges cover smart-city payments, open banking and embedded finance, as well as tools for small and medium-sized businesses.

Challenges Cover Security, Finance And Sustainability

Participants can also develop solutions in cybersecurity, sustainable finance, green banking, regulatory technology and financial wellbeing. Other categories address energy transactions and smart grids, insurance, healthcare finance, social innovation and real estate.

The range of challenges reflects the growing use of financial technology beyond traditional banking, from energy and healthcare payments to property management and insurance.

€16,000 Available In Cash Prizes

The winning team will receive €7,000, with €4,000 for second place and €2,000 for third. Another €2,000 will go to the team making the best use of Jinius APIs, while the Municipality of Nicosia will award €1,000 for the best smart-city solution.

Additional sponsors will provide technical support and other resources, giving teams opportunities to develop their projects beyond the competition.
