Guided Routes Highlight Local History And Craft
Led by a licensed tour guide, the first tour included several historic landmarks, among them the church of Agia Paraskevi, the Sacred Gardens and the Kato Vrysi spring.
Participants also visited the Museum of Folk Art, which showcases local customs and traditions, and watched a demonstration of traditional loukoumi preparation, highlighting the heritage behind Yeroskipou’s well-known sweet. The route continued through the central square and surrounding streets, introducing visitors to the area’s infrastructure and community identity.
According to Etap Paphos, participants praised the quality of the guiding and the variety of sites included in the itinerary. Bookings and participation for upcoming tours have also been increasing.
Initiative Aims To Support Local Businesses
The programme also seeks to connect cultural tourism with the local economy. After the tour, participants had free time to enjoy coffee or lunch and visit nearby shops, creating opportunities for local businesses to benefit from visitor spending.
“The main goal of the tourism board is to showcase the lesser-known but highly remarkable spots of the region, alongside new infrastructure that upgrades the tourism product,” Etap Paphos said on Monday.
Free guided tours of Ierokipia’s historic centre will continue every Tuesday throughout October and November, according to the tourism board.
By combining heritage sites, local traditions and opportunities to explore nearby businesses, the initiative aims to broaden the area’s tourism offering and encourage visitors to engage more closely with its cultural identity.
