Meta’s Llama 3.x: Power and Flexibility for Big Players
On the other side, Meta’s Llama 3.x is a strong option for businesses ready to invest in their AI setup.
According to Sergyenko, Meta’s latest models, like the 405-billion parameter Llama 3.1, have shown impressive results, outperforming OpenAI’s GPT-4 Omni and Claude 3.5 Sonnet on several benchmarks. This makes Llama 3.x a top choice for businesses needing cutting-edge AI.
“Being open-source, Llama 3.x offers great flexibility for customisation. This is especially useful for companies with unique needs that off-the-shelf solutions can’t meet. While Meta provides the model for free, running and maintaining it is costly. The infrastructure and DevOps support required is significant, so this option is best for large enterprises with the resources to handle it” he explains.
Sergyenko also highlights that for businesses worried about data sharing, using an open-source model like Llama 3.x offers better control over data privacy and security since everything stays in-house.
“Unlike OpenAI, Meta’s Llama 3.x is limited to text processing and can’t handle images, audio, or video. This might be a big drawback depending on your business needs” he says.

“OpenAI API is likely the best bet for small businesses” Sergyenko simply puts, and he adds that it’s affordable, easy to use, and doesn’t require a big investment in infrastructure. You can quickly integrate AI into your operations without requiring a team of tech experts.
“Medium businesses might find OpenAI’s API to be a perfect fit too, especially if you’re looking for quick deployment and scalability without heavy costs. However, if you have a tech-savvy team and specific needs, you might explore Meta’s Llama 3.x for its flexibility” Sergyenko says.
On the other hand, if the business has the resources, Meta’s Llama 3.x can offer high performance and customisation.
“But remember, the costs of running and maintaining the model are high. If your operations need more than just text processing, OpenAI’s API might still be a better overall choice” he concludes.
