What challenges have you faced as a woman in tech?
I’ve been fortunate to have a diverse and supportive network throughout my career. I understand, however, that many women in tech face challenges. Gender representation in IT companies is a significant issue, with women often underrepresented in typical roles. This can lead to a lack of female role models and sometimes feelings of isolation. Women in tech also encounter the need to break through biases and stereotypes, and balancing work and personal life can be particularly challenging. Despite these hurdles, progress towards a more inclusive tech industry is being made. Efforts to foster diversity and support women are increasing, intending to create a more equitable and balanced field.
What advice would you give to other women interested in a tech career?
The key is never to stand still and keep moving, even in small steps. Don’t panic or wait for the perfect moment of clarity if the final goal still needs to be visible. Instead, focus on doing what you can in the present moment. Over time, the horizon will become more transparent, and your movement will help you gain clarity.
Remember that progress is often made by taking small steps, and even small actions can make a significant difference over time. Take your time with the perfect plan and the perfect moment. Take action and be open to adjusting your approach as needed. Doing so will allow you to progress toward your goals, even if the path is unclear.
What are your thoughts on the future of women in tech?
The future of women in tech holds great promise. While there have been historical challenges and disparities, the tech industry increasingly recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion. As more young girls and women are encouraged to pursue STEM education and tech careers, we can expect a more balanced representation. Initiatives, mentorship programs, and advocacy for gender equality in tech are gaining traction, fostering a more supportive environment for women. With access to education, mentorship, and equal opportunities, women are poised to excel in various tech roles, from coding to leadership positions. The future of women in tech is about breaking down barriers, supporting one another, and creating a more inclusive and equitable industry. Their contributions will continue to drive innovation and shape the future of technology, making it more representative and responsive to the needs of a diverse global population.
What are your thoughts on diversity and inclusion in the tech industry?
Diversity and inclusion in the tech industry are imperative. They foster innovation, ensure that tech products meet the needs of a diverse user base, and expand the talent pool. It’s a matter of social responsibility to create equal opportunities. Despite some progress, there are still significant gaps in representation, and efforts are needed to improve diversity and inclusion. This requires implementing inclusive policies, offering mentorship, and promoting an inclusive culture. Encouraging diversity in tech education is also crucial to addressing the underrepresentation issue.
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about building a company where everyone is assured of being heard, encouraged to open up, and empowered to realize their full potential. This path should not be constrained by anything other than an individual’s willingness and ability – neither gender nor nationality. I am committed to fostering a culture of trust, openness, and teamwork.
