Infrastructure And Economic Development
One of the standout initiatives is the long-awaited resolution of issues surrounding Larnaca Port. A landmark agreement with The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) is set to be signed in April, paving the way for a long-term strategic plan. Parallel to this, critical maintenance work at Larnaca Marina has been approved, while a new agreement has been secured for Larnaca International Airport, promising improved terms and substantial financial benefits estimated at €300 million.
The government is also prioritizing transport infrastructure, announcing major upgrades to public transportation and road networks, which are crucial for enhancing connectivity and overall quality of life.
Expanding Educational Opportunities
A significant addition to Larnaca’s academic landscape is the new School of Marine Sciences, Technology, and Sustainable Development under the Cyprus University of Technology. This €16.4 million project is expected to open its doors in September 2027, attracting students from across Cyprus and beyond. The Municipality of Larnaca will oversee the construction, reinforcing local investment in higher education.
Beyond this, Christodoulides reaffirmed government support for bringing foreign university branches to Larnaca, made possible through a newly implemented Unified Strategy for Higher Education.
Boosting Innovation And Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurs in Larnaca are set to benefit from the launch of the Entrepreneurship and Research Innovation Center in Aradippou. Designed as a dynamic space for young professionals, the center will provide affordable workspaces and resources to foster innovation and business growth.
Agriculture And Sustainability Initiatives
The primary sector is also receiving a significant boost. A €60 million investment under the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027 will support livestock farming, fisheries, and sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, funds are being allocated to reduce energy and irrigation costs, providing tangible benefits to young farmers and breeders.
Environmental sustainability remains a priority, with large-scale projects focused on upgrading the Koshi Integrated Waste Management Facility and restoring the former Larnaca refinery site. Addressing water supply issues linked to climate change is another key objective, ensuring long-term resilience in the face of increasing droughts.
Healthcare And Public Services
Larnaca’s healthcare sector will see substantial upgrades, including a €16.4 million investment in the New General Hospital of Larnaca. Emergency response services will also be reinforced with the establishment of a dedicated Rapid Response Clinic.
Cultural And Tourism Development
Larnaca’s rich cultural heritage is being preserved and promoted through strategic restoration projects. The government has allocated €600,000 for the maintenance and enhancement of key historical sites, including Larnaca Castle, the Choirokoitia archaeological site, and the Medieval Chapel in Pyrga. Additionally, in preparation for Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency in 2026, Larnaca Castle’s museum space will be upgraded to host high-profile conferences and events.
A Commitment To Long-Term Growth
Education infrastructure is another focal point, with €40 million dedicated to upgrading existing schools such as Drosia Gymnasium and Evriviadio Gymnasium. A new Technical and Vocational School for Green Professions, set to replace St. Lazarus Technical School, will be developed with a €30 million investment. The location—either Alambra or Kornos—will be finalized by the Cabinet in the coming days.
Recognizing the importance of municipal resources, the government is also increasing funding for primary road maintenance, raising the initial €3 million allocation to ensure smoother operations at the local level.
A City On The Rise
“Larnaca is a district full of potential, and we are committed to supporting its transformation,” said Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras. “These projects lay the foundation for a stronger economy, improved quality of life, and a more sustainable and modern city.”
With €180 million in strategic investments, Larnaca is not just evolving—it is positioning itself as a key player in Cyprus’ future economic and social landscape.
