Cyprus Ranks Near The Bottom Of Europe’s Video Game Market, With Mobile Gaming Dominating

Cyprus recorded the second-lowest consumer spending on video games among 36 European countries in 2025, according to a report from the European Audiovisual Observatory. Only Malta spent less.

Spending Trails The European Average

Consumers in Cyprus spent €12.51 million on video games last year, placing the country 35th in the report’s ranking. Malta recorded €8.31 million in spending.

That amounts to €9.93 per person in Cyprus, based on a population of approximately 1.26 million. The European average was €47.29 per person—nearly five times higher.

Across all 36 countries covered, the video game market generated €27.73 billion in consumer spending in 2025.

Mobile Games Account For Nearly All Spending

The report groups Cyprus with Luxembourg and Malta as smaller European markets where mobile gaming predominates. In Cyprus, mobile platforms accounted for about 98% of consumer spending on video games in 2025.

According to the report, high smartphone use and a comparatively limited presence of traditional consoles and PCs in the recorded data help shape these markets. Revenue is driven primarily by in-game purchases and digital currencies.
