Let’s see what Raluca has to say…
1. Do you remember your first day on the job at RSEVEN?
It feels like just yesterday. I vividly remember the excitement when my company finally came to fruition, along with the nerves of wanting to handle everything professionally. I’m sure many in the audience can relate to the years of thought, decision-making, and planning that went into it. Little did I know how much those plans would evolve and change. No one can truly prepare you for the experience, the lessons you learn, or the moments of doubt and reflection you’ll face along the way.
It’s crucial to build something driven by passion and love. When your work comes from the heart, no economic crisis, pandemic, or any other ‘black swan’ event, as Nassim Nicholas Taleb calls it, can stop you. This foundation ensures resilience in the face of unexpected challenges.
2. What is more difficult: being interviewed to join a team or doing the interviews yourself?
I’ve experienced both sides, so I can offer different perspectives. Both roles have their challenges. When you really want to be part of a team, you need to prepare thoroughly, do your homework, ensure you have the right answers, and, most importantly, make sure you fit in and can deliver. As the interviewer, it’s crucial to be as objective as possible because it’s not just about who makes a good impression but who is the best fit for the team. It’s easy to choose, but it’s hard to reject. Why? Because everyone who applies for the job has expectations, hopes, and dreams. The same goes if you’re on the other side. The beauty of this process, whether you’re the interviewee or the interviewer, is that it builds stamina, discipline, and a good understanding of your emotions and reactions.
3. What do you most value in your employees?
I first value them as individuals, appreciating their personalities and contributions as colleagues. Then, I recognize their dedication and commitment to delivering the best services and products to our customers. I value their integrity and their unwavering set of values, which align closely with my own. Their honesty and sense of being a true part of the team, rather than just employees, mean a lot to me. They are like a second family, and I am incredibly grateful for that!
4. Which is a motto/quote you use in your work?
“Success isn’t just measured by achievements; it’s also about how many people you’ve lifted along the way.”.
I genuinely believe that while personal accomplishments are important, the greatest form of success lies in supporting and guiding others, especially when you’ve already travelled the path they’re on. Measuring your success by the success of others is not only the highest level of achievement but also a testament to wisdom, true mentorship, confidence, and leadership.
5. If you were back to the start, what would you advise yourself for a great career?
I am grateful for where my journey has taken me, and I’m excited to see what will unfold in the future. However, I would offer one crucial piece of advice to my younger self and all new entrepreneurs and business owners: be patient. Remember, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ It’s essential to have the maturity to practice patience. I particularly resonate with a quote by Arnold H. Glasow that perfectly captures this sentiment: ‘The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.’”
6. How do you pump up your creativity?
Oh, there are so many ways! I’ve come to realize that I’m a strategist, not just by education and experience, but it’s something that feels innate to me. I find that my creativity thrives when I’m developing or updating business and brand strategies. These activities engage me deeply, making me feel both creative and focused. However, sometimes I need a quieter way to recharge, which I like to call my ‘Creative Sanctuary.’ On these days, I’ll start slowly, take a walk in nature, go for a swim, or indulge in what I call a ‘knowledge dose.’ This involves diving into topics I’m passionate about, reading, listening to podcasts, or watching educational documentaries. These activities not only enhance my skills and broaden my knowledge but also inspire me to create new projects, courses, or products.
7. What is a talent you would like to have?
A talent I would like to have is the ability to instantly absorb and master new knowledge or skills. While I enjoy the process of learning and exploring new topics, having the capability to quickly understand and excel in any subject would be incredibly valuable. It would enhance my strategic thinking and creativity even further, allowing me to innovate and develop new projects, courses, or products with greater ease and efficiency. This talent would complement my passion for continuous growth and my desire to support others in their journeys.
8. How do you balance work and personal life?
It might sound utopian, but it’s true: I approach everything with so much love and passion that I don’t experience work-related stress or imbalance in my life. I remember going through burnout last year, yet even then, I felt happy and grateful. It’s important to share what works, and I’ve learned to listen to my body and mind. When my body needs rest, I take a break; when my mind is alert and ready, I focus on being super productive. Meditation, brain dumps, and journaling help me become aware of my thoughts, understand patterns, shift my mindset, and find balance. Often, people struggle to find balance because they don’t know how to prioritize tasks, whether work-related, social, or household chores. They may also hesitate to ask for help, delegate, or simply say no.
9. What are the top five foods you like in Cyprus?
Cyprus offers an amazing cuisine that is not only incredibly tasty but also shares similarities with the flavors of my homeland, Romania. My favorite dishes include halloumi, which I enjoy in any form, souvlaki, egg lemon soup (Avgolemono), tahinopittes (sweet tahini pies), and of course, Loukoumades—a delicious treat that might require at least three hours at the gym! The beauty of Cyprus lies in its culinary diversity, offering everything from charming taverns to gourmet restaurants, where even traditional dishes can be presented like Michelin-starred creations.
10. Can you name your top five favourite places in Cyprus?
With pleasure, I came to Cyprus 15 years ago, and I can say I’ve explored the entire island. Yet, even today, I’m mesmerized by the beautiful places I continue to discover or revisit. Some must-see and favorite spots include Avakas Gorge, Adonis Baths Waterfalls, Akamas, Lania village, Pano Platres, Caledonia Waterfalls, the ancient city of Kourion, and the sea caves in Agia Napa, to name a few. Cyprus is full of stunning locations and hidden gems that can make you feel like you’re in different parts of the world. How can you not love this country?
11. Which personality, throughout history, do you admire most?
It’s not just one person; there are several individuals whom I not only admire but who have also guided me on both my personal and professional journeys. I feel I must also emphasize that there are so many talented and inspirational personalities—writers, poets, or painters—who have not only inspired us but also innovated and shaped the course of history. It wouldn’t be fair to single out just one.
For instance, Nelson Mandela, a symbol of peace and reconciliation, inspired me with his wisdom in leading South Africa out of apartheid through forgiveness and unity. His life and words are a powerful testament to the strength of wisdom and perseverance. Another figure I admire is Marie Curie, a pioneer in science who exemplified dedication, passion, and resilience. Additionally, I must mention one more person who has been a great inspiration and role model to me—my grandfather. He was not only a mentor but also gave me some of the most wise and important advice I’ve ever received. Though he is no longer with me, he remains forever a part of my heart and soul.
12. Who is your favourite author/book that has helped your career?
It’s hard to choose just one, as many talented and inspirational authors have significantly influenced my career at various stages. However, one of my favorites is Ray Dalio, particularly his book “Principles.” This book has been a cornerstone in my professional development, offering valuable insights into decision-making, leadership, and life principles. Every time I read it or revisit a chapter, I gain new perspectives that help me navigate my career with greater clarity and purpose.
Depending on the stage of my career, different authors have inspired me. For instance, in high school, I was drawn to certain authors, while in university and beyond, my preferences evolved. This reflects the beauty of growing and changing through life’s experiences, as each phase brings new challenges and needs that shape our literary influences.
13. Where would you advise our readers to go this summer?
There are countless beautiful destinations to explore, starting with Cyprus, where you can enjoy stunning beaches, rich cultural experiences, and vibrant local cuisine. For a taste of the Greek islands, I recommend visiting Santorini and Skopelos, both known for their breathtaking scenery and charming villages. If you’re drawn to lush landscapes and mountain adventures, Romania is a fantastic option. You can explore the Apuseni Mountains, marvel at the stunning Scarisoara Cave, visit the iconic Bran Castle (the castle of Dracula), or experience the unique biodiversity of the Danube Delta. Each of these destinations offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
